Malé

A guesthouse in Malé, and the city around it.

Pollina sits on Violet Hingun in Henveiru. Tea, the harbour, and the bridge to Velana Airport are close. The guesthouse does not run those boats. It will tell you how they work.

Speedboats moored along the Malé harbour promenade.
The usual way an island day begins.
01

The harbour

Public ferries and private speedboats leave from the waterfront. A resort transfer, a local island, or an afternoon on the water usually starts here. Ask the house which quay matches the day you want.

02

The bridge

Velana International Airport is on Hulhulé, across the Sinamalé Bridge. A taxi is the ordinary way. Add an airport taxi when you book if you want the house to arrange the car.

03

The neighbourhood

The house has a café on the terrace. Short eats, pharmacies, and the evening walk sit around it. There is no private beach at the end of Violet Hingun. The city is the amenity.

Getting here

From Velana International Airport to Violet Hingun.

Velana (MLE) sits on Hulhulé. Pollina is in Henveiru, Malé, across the Sinamalé Bridge. A city taxi is the ordinary way: give the driver H. Rangali, Violet Hingun 20122. In usual traffic the ride is about fifteen to twenty-five minutes. Add an airport taxi when you book if you want the house to arrange the car one way.

There is no seaplane dock at the house, and no private speedboat transfer of our own. Island days still start at the public harbour. If you land late, stay the night in the capital and take the first boat in the morning.

Good to know

A living capital, with its own manners.

Dress

Cover shoulders and knees in public. The house is more relaxed. The street is not a resort deck.

Friday

Midday is for prayer. Many shops pause. Plan the arrival around that, not through it.

No bar

Alcohol is not part of life in Malé. Resort islands keep different rules.

Water

Drink bottled water. The house can point to the nearest shop.

If you are between two islands, or starting the trip in the capital, search your dates and add the flight time in the note.
